The jersey

Tuesday, 6 March

Tonight was meant to be my last installment of winter racing at CycleU. One more effort to find those elusive 20 average watts I lost somewhere in the last year. And then they give me the leader's jersey and tell me I keep it until I lose it. Oh, the pressure. Now I have to go back and defend. They figured out how to suck me in. And I try to tell myself I'm really not very competitive....

Woah.

Did they mean as much irony as that contains?

Irony as in you have to pay more entry fees to keep the jersey? Irony as in riding a trainer is a race? Or irony as in the season's barely started, I have "the jersey," and that probably jinxes the rest of my season?

this whole jersey thing is like the ProTour... When you win the state champs which jersey takes precedence? The whole damned thing is confusing. Damn Cycle U ProTour.

And, the big one: It's a jersey for indoor time trials.

The point of a leader's jersey is so that you can identify the leader on sight, right? So you can, um, cover their moves and stuff?

TS: Me thinks the point of this jersey is to advertise the venue at which it was earned.

Mr. McCurly: I do have state and national jerseys at home too. Needless to say, riding my bike involves a great deal of thoughtful wardrobe selection. I should test them and see which produces the most waves on the BGT....
